These 7x10 inch hand carved and pressed block prints incorporate small lines to denote the rhythmic beating of the heart. Each beat marks a passing moment. My drawing and carving process is a meditative activity in which I am mindful of my body's function and movement within each moment. Each print carries unique imperfections which are quite perfect.

These 6x9 inch hand carved and pressed prints are documents of small movements. Through my experience with various limits on my range of mobility as a part of a life long journey with Rhuematoid Arthritis, I have come to a place of gratitude for and an indulgence in the mobility that I do have at any given time. This print creates a record, and in a sense makes permanent, the movement of my hand and wrist through a drawing and then through the physicality of carving to create block prints.
Breath

These 7x10 inch hand carved and pressed linocut block prints explore the repetition of and space taken by the breath. My drawing and carving process is a meditative activity in which I am mindful of my body's function and movement within each moment. The inherent repetition in printmaking echos the breathing mechanism and produces a movement mantra which both calms and energizes me. Each print carries unique imperfections which are quite perfect.

Installation at Marion Nicol Gallery
Indulge is a project in which I explore my ephemeral experience with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) involving chronic pain, restricted activity and mobility. Taking a positive approach, I celebrate and indulge in movement and a defiance of RA. Through my materials, I reference the invisible nature of the disease as well as the transience and uncertainty which are a part of the experience. Indulge is a record of my movements, a permanent document of my body’s mobility, something which can decrease or disappear at any moment. It celebrates the ability of the human body to move and create. This installation was exhibited as a solo show at the Marion Nicoll Gallery.
Audio and Spacial Installation
visibleInvisible is focused on the idea of what is beneath or beyond immediate perception. Invisible illnesses are not always noticed and perceived by others. This project illustrates through a continuous and uncomfortable loud white noise and subtle movement of the suspended pieces, that some issues are only made visible and clear upon closer examination and questioning. Each individual component relates and responds to the body in size and through an almost imperceptible breath-like movement. Viewers can move through the piece and recognize there is more to discover beneath the almost opaque pieces as well as reflect on their understanding of others.
Repetitive Installation
traces is a document of my hand in movement. The all white materials reference the invisible nature of Rheumatoid Arthritis. This piece illustrates the repetitive movement of my hand as I indulge in it’s mobility. This project arises out of a desire to keep a permanent record of movement, which is an ephemeral ability.

Tim’s
This is a commissioned piece for an amazing young man who has roots and history in both Canada and Japan. Now, as a young adult, he resides in Canada . This piece references, geographically and through the use of red, both countries and the movement within and between the two. This piece is a demonstration of connection, growth, movement, place and home. For Tim.

repair
An ephemeral site specific project where I engaged in a meditative and repetitive act in an attempt to refresh the chapped earth, filling it with bright green leaves from surrounding foliage. (Fall 2017)
This piece was made in collaboration with a woman who lives with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) and Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA). She was a passionate runner before being diagnosed and she went through a period where her mobility was greatly reduced. I was privileged to listen to her story of strength in her decision to defy her disease and not allow it to define her, eventually getting back to running. This piece is a response to her incredible story. Define was chosen for a travelling show along with other works that explored a variety autoimmune diseases and was exhibited throughout the United States and Europe.
Small works or thoughts exploring ideas, even fragments of ideas centering on the everyday, the body, the present moment, interventions on these moments, awareness and noticing. These studies are integral to my process and inform my practice.
